![]() AD is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States (US) and its numbers and proportions will increase rapidly in coming years, as the population of Americans at age 65 and older is projected to grow from 56 million in 2020 to 88 million by 2050. There are over 9.9 million new cases of dementia each year worldwide, implying one new case every 3.2 seconds. ĪD is a global disease with differential impact on countries in the world. The cognitive impairments are accompanied by deterioration in emotional control, social behavior, and motivation.
